New Delhi: BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Friday stepped up his attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of violating parliamentary norms by using objectionable language and making unsubstantiated allegations during the Lok Sabha proceedings. Thakur said Congress leaders repeatedly resort to “unparliamentary and derogatory” expressions inside the House, level baseless charges and even use insulting remarks against the media, undermining the dignity of Parliament.
Backing the action taken by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Thakur said such conduct is against the Rules of Procedure and cannot be allowed to become a precedent. He added that a formal breach of privilege and contempt notice has been submitted, seeking that the matter be referred to the Privileges Committee for inquiry and that Rahul Gandhi tender an unconditional apology to the House and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The development comes amid escalating clashes between the BJP and the Congress during the ongoing Monsoon Session, with both sides trading sharp accusations over parliamentary conduct and decorum.
