International Day of Older Persons was celebrated today at Kalyan Bhawan in Solan district, courtesy the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment. The program was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner Solan Ajay Kumar Yadav.
Ajay Kumar Yadav said that senior citizens are the basis of our society. We can all make our lives better by learning from the experiences of senior citizens. He said that even at this stage of age, the elderly are making important contribution in building the society and country through their experiences.
On this occasion, Ajay, who came from Health Ministry, New Delhi, District Welfare Officer Gava Singh Negi and Tehsil Welfare Officer Surender Singh also shared their views.
Members of various day care centers running under the district participated in the function and exchanged their views.
On the occasion of International Day of Older Persons, a rally was organized by the voluntary organization HelpAge India from the old bus stand in Solan to the old Deputy Commissioner’s office by the students of Shades College of Law. The objective of the walkathon was to promote respect and care for the elderly and acknowledge their contribution to society. During the walkathon, students gave the message of respect for elders and urged people to respect and take care of elders.
Social Security Officer of voluntary organization HelpAge, Manoj Raj Verma and other dignitaries were present in the rally.
