Days ahead of the completion of 21-day nationwide lockdown in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, the scheduled video-interaction between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the chief ministers tomorrow would determine the future course, including extension of lockdown and its duration.

Amid broad indications that there would be no blanket lifting of the lockdown, Odisha has already taken a lead by extending restrictions within its border till April 30. The Saturday’s video-interaction is expected to bring definiteness to a uniform plan even as most states and the Centre remain concerned over the strong impact of lockdown on economy.

Key suggestions put forward so far include maintaining strict restrictions on movement in hotspots, keeping a close eye in other areas and opening up some activity in regions where there are no cases. The Centre today maintained that there was no evidence of community transmission.
