A case of objectionable posts against the Congress party and ministers, including the Chief Minister of the state, has come to light on social media. Taking action in this regard, the police have registered an FIR in 2 police stations, including the Sadar police station of Shimla city. The case was registered in Thana Sadar on the complaint of Congress leader Suresh Kumar. He alleged that a user named Dinesh himself has made objectionable comments about the Congress party on social media. The complaint said that Dinesh described Congress as a hidden terrorist organization and not a political party.
Suresh Kumar alleged that such comments have been made with the intention of defaming the Congress party. He said that Dinesh deliberately repeated such comments in different posts, and this not only hurt the reputation of the party but also promoted enmity and hatred in the society. In this case, Thana Sadar Police have registered a case under Section 336 (4), A 353 (2), 356 (4), and 196 (1) of the Indian Penal Code. The police have started an investigation, and digital evidence of the comments spread on social media is being examined.
In another case, an FIR has been registered at Thana Chhota Shimla on a complaint received through post from the Himachal Pradesh Superintendent of Police Office. This complaint was received on January 1, 2025, through the Intelligence Department and Police Office. According to the complaint, objectionable posts and videos were uploaded by a social media channel against the Chief Minister of the state and other ministers of the state government. These posts are said to have been made with the intention of tarnishing the image of the Chief Minister and other leaders.
The police have registered an FIR in this case under sections 353, 336 (4), 356 (2), and 356 (3) BNS. A preliminary investigation revealed that misleading and derogatory content was uploaded in these posts regarding the policies of the Chief Minister and the government. SP Shimla Sanjeev Gandhi said that action is being taken by registering FIRs in both cases.
