A 21-year-old staff nurse at Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, has tested positive for Covid-19 here, becoming the second positive case in the city. Earlier, a 21-year-old youth, who had returned from England, was found Covid positive on March 19.
The nurse has been isolated at the general hospital and given anti-viral treatment, while seven members of her family have been quarantined at home. Dr Sant Lal Verma, Civil Surgeon, said the woman had returned home from Gurugram on March 20 with mild cough.
She visited the general hospital on March 23 where her samples were collected. She has been admitted to the isolation ward at the hospital, said Dr Verma. Dr Shashi Garg, nodal officer for Covid, said a team of the Health Department visited her home to trace her connections.
Dr Garg said the nurse worked in the Covid sample collection section of the Gurugram hospital and might have been infected there. She went to the hospital on March 19, but her sample was not taken as she had no contact history.
She took an auto-rickshaw to a Metro station and reached Panipat by bus. She subsequently visited the OPD at the general hospital on March 21, but when her condition deteriorated on March 23, she was admitted to the hospital, said Dr Garg, adding as per her statement, she did not leave her Panipat home. None of the family members was symptomatic and her condition was stable, Dr Garg added.
