Shimla: Himachal Pradesh BJP President Rajiv Bindal on Tuesday claimed that the people of the state had rejected the Congress government in the recent Panchayati Raj and Municipal elections and would deliver a similar verdict in the 2027 Assembly elections.
Before addressing the media, Dr. Bindal paid floral tributes to the statue of Himachal Pradesh’s first Chief Minister, Yashwant Singh Parmar, at the Ridge Maidan in Shimla on the occasion of his birth anniversary. He described Dr. Parmar as the architect of modern Himachal Pradesh, saying his vision for agriculture, horticulture, education, healthcare, and road connectivity continues to guide the state’s development. He added that Dr. Parmar’s belief that “roads are our destiny” remains relevant even today.
Launching a sharp attack on the Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Dr. Bindal alleged that the mandate in the recent local body elections reflected growing public dissatisfaction with the state government.
He accused the Congress of failing to fulfil key electoral promises, including providing one lakh government jobs, creating five lakh employment opportunities, granting ₹1,500 per month to eligible women, and ensuring good governance. According to him, unemployed youth are still waiting for employment opportunities while the government has failed to deliver on its commitments.
Dr. Bindal further alleged that nepotism, backdoor appointments, and corruption had increased under the present government, claiming that people expected development and transparent governance but instead faced administrative failures and economic challenges.
Referring to the BJP’s performance in the recent district council elections, he claimed that the party’s victory in 10 out of 11 Zila Parishad chairperson posts reflected public support for the BJP and rejection of the Congress government’s policies.
He asserted that if the Chief Minister is confident about the government’s performance, he should answer the public regarding the unfulfilled promises. Dr. Bindal maintained that the BJP would continue to position itself as a credible alternative based on development, public trust, and good governance ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
