There is a possibility of snowfall and rain at many places in the mid- and high-mountain areas of the state on Tuesday amid a yellow alert of thunderstorms and lightning. Along with this, cold days are also expected at some places.
Due to the western disturbance becoming active, light to moderate snowfall and rain is likely at many places in the middle and high mountain areas, while light to moderate rain is likely at some places in the plains, the effect of which will remain on Wednesday as well.
Although the weather will remain dry from 6 to 8 February, a new western disturbance is going to become active from 8 February, due to which there are chances of light snowfall and rain in the middle and high mountain areas on 9 February. On Monday, most parts of the state, including the capital Shimla, were sunny, and the maximum temperature in Bhuntar was 25.2 degrees, in Una 23.4, and in the capital Shimla 21.5 degrees.
The minimum temperature was minus 9.8 in Kukumseri, minus 9.3 in Tabo, minus 8.3 in Keylong, and minus 0.5 degrees. Kalpa, Alpa, while the capital Shimla was 6.2 degrees, while the temperature was 2.2 in Una, 2 in Solan, and 3.5 degrees. Palampur, that is, the nights in Una, Solan, and Palampur were colder than Shimla.
According to the Meteorological Department, there has been 84 percent less rainfall in the month of January, and there is a 35 to 45 percent possibility that there may be less rainfall than normal in the month of February as well.
If the Meteorological Department is to be believed, Shimla has received 37 percent less snowfall from the year 1990 to 2020. According to the data of the Meteorological Department, during this period, an average of 129.1 cm of snow fell in Shimla, more than normal, while in the decade 2010-2020 it remained 80.3 cm. In the last three seasons of snowfall, this figure has not even touched the fingers. From 2011 to 2020, an average of 80.3 cm of snow fell in Shimla city, 67 cm in 2020-2021, and 161.7 cm in 2021-2022.
There was 6 cm of snowfall in 2022-23 and 7 cm in 2023-2024, while in this season, 2024-2025, only 9.5 cm of snow has fallen so far. This figure is likely to improve with the possibility of snowfall on Tuesday.
