    Under the visionary leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, the Centre for Human Rights and Disability Studies (CHRD) successfully conducted its Orientation Programme on 9th September 2025. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from first-year students and featured interactive activities, thought-provoking discussions, and a special screening of the Oscar-winning short film The Silent Child. The programme highlighted the Centre’s commitment to advancing discourse on human rights and disability, fostering inclusivity, and building bridges between academic insight and social realities.

     

    The session opened with welcoming remarks by Ms. Samia, Co-Convenor of CHRD, followed by a comprehensive presentation on the Centre’s vision, mission, and past initiatives. The event proceeded with innovative and reflective activities, including the ‘Dominant Hand Game’ conducted by Ms. Ashpinder, Convenor of CHRD, which engaged students in a deeper understanding of lived experiences and disability rights.

     

    A key highlight was the screening of The Silent Child, sensitively introduced by a Centre member, offering an impactful perspective on communication barriers and inclusive education. This was followed by the ‘Auction Game’, again led by Ms. Samia, which stimulated critical thinking on rights and representation. The session concluded with an energetic ‘Meet the Team’ interaction facilitated by Ms. Ashpinder, introducing the new students to the dedicated team members behind CHRD.

     

    The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Sachin Sharma, Associate Professor of Law and Faculty Director of CHRD, Dr. Akshita Dhiman, Assistant Professor of Psychology, and Mr. Digvijay Singh, Assistant Professor of Law. Each shared their insights on the evolving role of human rights education and the need for active engagement in the domain of disability studies.

     

    Freshers were actively involved throughout the event and voiced their reflections on human rights issues via engaging games and discussions. Their enthusiasm underscored the importance of student-led initiatives in shaping informed and empathetic future professionals.

     

    The Orientation Programme concluded with an open invitation to all interested students to join the Centre and contribute to its ongoing journey of learning, advocacy, and social impact. The CHRD at HPNLU remains committed to promoting dignity, equality, and inclusion as essential and actionable human rights.

    CHRD, One Day National Seminar on Changing Dimensions on Higher Education: A New Vision

     

    The Centre for Human Resource Development along with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla organised a One Day National Seminar on Changing Dimensions of Higher Education: A New Vision , sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR at the prestigious Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla. The Seminar was organized under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal at the University campus today on 4th June.

    The seminar aimed to delve into the evolving landscape of higher education and explore novel perspectives and strategies to address the changing dynamics of this crucial sector. This event served as a platform for experts, scholars, and stakeholders to engage in productive discussions and contribute to the vision of a redefined higher education system.

    The program was initiated with the inaugural address by Prof. (Dr.) Nishtha Jaswal, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, who highlighted the significance of adapting to the changing dimensions of higher education. Prof. (Dr.) Paramjit S.Jaswal, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SRM University, Haryana Delhi-NCR, Sonepat in his presiding remarks, emphasized the need for collaboration and innovation to drive positive transformation in the field. The keynote speaker, Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Sancheti, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (Provost), Marwadi University, Rajkot shared his extensive knowledge and insights, shedding light on emerging trends and advancements in higher education. His address provided a thought-provoking perspective on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The seminar was graced by the esteemed presence of the Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, Pro-Chancellor, IILM Law School, IILM University, Gurugram, Haryana, who delivered an inspiring address. Prof. Singh shared his vision for a reimagined higher education system that fosters excellence, inclusivity, and holistic development. Concluding the session, Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Jaswal, Director, IQAC, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the attendees, distinguished speakers, and organizing committee members. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts and continuous learning in shaping the future of higher education.

    Three technical sessions were held for the seminar which were chaired by esteemed chairpersons. The first technical session held on Integrating ICT and New Technologies into Teaching – Learning Pedagogy was chaired by Dr. Kamal Kishore, Assistant Professor, Department of Bio- Statistics, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The second technical session held On Predicting the Scope of National Education Policy, 2020 was chaired by Prof.(Dr.) Sanjay Sindhu, Chairman, Department of Law, HPU, Shimla and the third technical session on Work Culture and Work-Life Balance was chaired by (Dr.) Rajeev Bansal, Joint Director, HIPA.

    The seminar on ‘Changing Dimensions of Higher Education: A New Vision, promised to be an Enriching experience for all the participants, by providing a platform for meaningful dialogue, exchange of ideas, and fostering future collaborations. The seminar was organized by Conference Convener Dr. Deepika Gautam, Dr. Esha Bhagra and Dr. Praveen Kumar.
