IIT’s “Vision-Based Flood Warning Sensor” alerts you about flood danger in time.

IIT Mandi trainees have created a vision-based flood warning sensor to sense the danger of floods. IIT students Om Maheshwari, Garvit, Varnika, Akshay, Karthik, and Harika have jointly created this prototype. Om Maheshwari told us that in the prototype he has made, he has installed a sensor that will share real-time data of water level.

This sensor will be installed under the bridge, and it will send all the information about the water level through satellite. The data of the normal water level of the river will be known in advance, and in case of a flood, when the water level increases, it will be possible to estimate which places on the riverbank are going to be in danger. In such a situation, the next places can be evacuated in time so that loss of life and property can be prevented there.

He told me that earlier, sensors to check flood conditions were installed in the river in the middle of the water, which used to get washed away in case of a flood. But the sensor made by them will be away from the water level of the river and will also share all the information safely. These sensors will not be installed in just one place but will be installed in every 10- or 15-km radius so that all the information can be obtained correctly.

It should be noted that during the rainy season in Himachal Pradesh, the water level of rivers and streams increases a lot. Here, a lot of population is settled near the rivers and streams, due to which there is a lot of damage here during the rainy season. Keeping this in mind, IIT students have made this prototype. In the future, it will be given further direction only after complete testing.
