    Bharmour: Amid continuous heavy rainfall, MLA Janak Raj has appealed to residents and travellers to remain extremely cautious as landslides, falling rocks and road blockages have been reported in several parts of the Bharmour sub-division.

     

    He informed that the Chamba–Bharmour stretch of National Highway-154A is currently open to traffic. However, with rain continuing, vulnerable and landslide-prone stretches remain at high risk. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is continuously monitoring the highway and keeping a close watch on the road conditions.

    Janak Raj urged people to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather, strictly follow official advisories and report any emergency or road obstruction to the concerned authorities immediately.

    NCST Reviews Welfare Schemes & Infrastructure Needs in Himachal’s Tribal Areas

    Shimla, June 9: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) held an important meeting with Members of Parliament and Members of the Legislative Assembly from Himachal Pradesh at Hotel Peterhoff in Shimla on Monday as part of its official visit to the state.

    The meeting was chaired by NCST Chairman Antar Singh Arya and attended by Commission Members Nirupam Chakma and Dr. Asha Lakra, along with other senior officials.

    During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on a wide range of issues concerning the welfare and development of tribal communities in Himachal Pradesh. Key topics included education, healthcare, road connectivity, employment opportunities, infrastructure development, and the effective implementation of various government welfare schemes in tribal regions.

    Members of Parliament and legislators highlighted challenges and developmental needs from their respective constituencies and submitted suggestions to the Commission for consideration.

    Addressing the gathering, NCST Chairman Antar Singh Arya said that ensuring the holistic development of tribal areas and safeguarding the rights of tribal communities remain top priorities for the Commission. He assured participants that the concerns and recommendations raised by public representatives would be examined seriously and necessary action would be pursued in coordination with the concerned departments.

    Member of Parliament Suresh Kumar Kashyap and MLAs Janak Raj and Anuradha Rana raised several issues related to their constituencies. The Commission Chairman advised that these demands be formally submitted as recommendations through the State Government for further action.

    Additional Chief Secretary (Tribal Development) Omkar Chand Sharma welcomed the Commission to Himachal Pradesh and coordinated the proceedings of the meeting.

    Officials informed the Commission that the communities notified as Scheduled Tribes in Himachal Pradesh include Bhot/Bodh, Gaddi, Gujjar, Jad, Lamba, Khampa, Kinnaura, Lahaula, Pangwala, Swangla, Beta, Beda, Demba, Gara, Joba and Hatti.

    According to the 2011 Census, Himachal Pradesh has a total population of 6.865 million, of which approximately 392,000 people belong to Scheduled Tribe communities, accounting for about 5.71 percent of the state’s population.

    BJP MLA demands immediate government clarification, alleges critical healthcare services are being weakened instead of strengthened.

     Former IGMC Medical Superintendent and BJP MLA Dr. Janak Raj has raised serious concerns over the worsening condition of cardiac healthcare services at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC), Tanda, following reports that the department’s only functional cardiologist has been transferred.

    Dr. Janak Raj warned that the move could severely impact thousands of patients suffering from heart ailments across Kangra, Chamba, Hamirpur and other adjoining districts who depend on Tanda Medical College for specialized cardiac treatment.

    “The government claims to be bringing a change in the system, but how will critically ill heart patients receive treatment if even the lone working cardiologist is shifted out? Is weakening already understaffed departments the government’s idea of healthcare reform?” he questioned.

    The BJP leader said that the Cardiology Department has already been facing an acute shortage of specialists, and any further reduction in manpower could push essential cardiac services to the brink. Recent reports have highlighted severe staff shortages in the department, resulting in long waiting periods for critical diagnostic procedures such as echocardiography.

    Dr. Janak Raj demanded an immediate clarification from the Sukhu government and urged it to ensure adequate deployment of specialist doctors in the Cardiology Department without delay.

    “People of Himachal want answers. Is the government strengthening healthcare infrastructure or leaving patients at the mercy of fate? The health of thousands cannot be compromised due to administrative decisions,” he said.

    He further stressed that access to timely cardiac care is a matter of life and death and warned that any disruption in specialist services at a major referral institution like Tanda Medical College could have serious consequences for patients across the state.

    The issue has once again brought the state government’s healthcare management under scrutiny, with growing questions being raised over staff shortages and transfers in key medical institutions. Recent reports indicated that Tanda’s Cardiology Department was already operating with only a limited number of specialists while handling a heavy patient load.
