In the theater festival , Language and Culture Department, Himachal Pradesh and Gaiety Dramatic Society has paid a heartfelt tribute to the great Indian theater actor Late Alok Chatterjee by staging the play “The Doll”.
Alok died on Monday 6 January 2025 in Bhopal. There is mourning in theaters across the country due to his demise.
It is noteworthy that Alok Chatterjee’s name is held with great respect in the world of theater. He was the second actor to receive the Gold Medal from the National School of Drama (NSD), before which only veterans had received this honour.
Actor Om Puri had received it.
Alok Chatterjee is known for his acting skills and dedication towards theatre.Not only in his area but he had made his mark in the entire country. Alok studied in NSD with Irrfan Khan
Alok Chatterjee and Irrfan Khan had a very close friendship. Irrfan Khan once recalled his old days and said that he was very lazy. Both of them worked together in NSD for three years.
He has been a wonderful acting coach whose talent is unmatched in Indian theatre. Artists trained by him across the country
They are awakening the flame of theater in their respective areas. The year 2019 for his remarkable contribution. He was honored with the country’s highest cultural honour, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, by Draupadi Murmu.
Even in a small town like Shimla, he has trained theater artistes under his intensive acting training who are active in theatre continuously.
Which includes the lead actor of the drama “The Doll” Rupesh Bhimta and director Kedar Thakur. in addition to these Happy Sharma, Saurabh Chauhan, Rupesh Bali, Daksha Upadhyay are the fortunate theater artists of Himachal who got the recognition of Alok Chatterjee.
There is a wave of mourning in the entire country due to his sudden demise. Sankalp Rangamandal Shimla on 8th and 9th January dedicated the play “The Doll” to this great actor and paid a heartfelt tribute to him. On this occasion, Honorable principal Advisor to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and former Chief Secretary to the Government of Himachal Pradesh, S Ram Subhag Singh.Dr. Pankaj Lalit, Director, Language and Culture Department, Himachal, Western Command (ARTRAC) participated on the occasion.
