    The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for several districts of Himachal Pradesh, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall during the next five days, with the most intense spell expected between July 20 and July 22.

    The weather department has cautioned that the active monsoon system could trigger flash floods, landslides, mudslides, cloudburst-like situations in vulnerable areas, waterlogging in urban centres and a sharp rise in the water levels of rivers and seasonal streams.

     

    According to the district-wise forecast, Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Kullu and Sirmaur are likely to witness the most severe weather conditions and have been placed under Red Warning (Take Action) on different days. Shimla, Solan, Hamirpur, Una and Bilaspur are expected to remain under Orange Alert, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall and related disruptions. The higher reaches of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti are likely to experience comparatively less impact but may still receive moderate rainfall at isolated places.

     

    The forecast indicates that rainfall activity will gradually intensify from July 19, peak between July 20 and July 22, and begin to ease on July 23. The IMD has warned that intense rain may lead to road blockages, damage to bridges, disruption of power and communication services, traffic congestion, and closure of highways due to landslides. National highways passing through Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Chamba districts are particularly vulnerable during the peak spell.

     

    District administrations and disaster management authorities have been advised to remain on high alert and ensure preparedness for any emergency. Residents, tourists and pilgrims have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers, nallahs and landslide-prone slopes, and strictly follow advisories issued by local authorities. People have also been advised to keep emergency supplies ready and monitor official weather updates before planning any journey.

    The IMD has appealed to the public not to ignore weather warnings, as the next few days are expected to witness one of the most active phases of the southwest monsoon in Himachal Pradesh this season.

Authorities have warned of an increased risk of landslides, flash floods, mudslides, waterlogging and disruption to essential services.

     

    The weather department has forecast that the active monsoon spell is likely to persist over the coming days, with intense rainfall expected in several districts. Kangra, Una and Sirmaur are among the districts under an orange alert, while other parts of the state remain under a yellow alert. Residents living near rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.

     

    Heavy rainfall has already affected normal life in several areas, with reports of road blockades, waterlogging and disruption to vehicular movement. Restoration teams are on standby to clear debris and reopen roads wherever required, while district administrations are closely monitoring the situation.

     

    The IMD has cautioned that heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods in low-lying areas, reduce visibility on highways and increase the likelihood of falling rocks and landslides in hilly regions. Tourists have also been urged to exercise caution and follow advisories issued by local authorities before planning travel.

     

    Officials have appealed to the public to stay updated through official weather bulletins, avoid venturing near swollen rivers and nullahs, and report any emergency to the local administration immediately as the monsoon remains active across Himachal Pradesh.

    Himachal Pradesh is bracing for another spell of severe weather as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rainfall and intense snowfall in higher reaches from January 26 to 28, 2026, due to an active western disturbance.


    In view of the warning, the state government has directed all districts to remain on high alert. District Disaster Management Authorities have been asked to maintain 24×7 monitoring, activate emergency response plans, and ensure timely public advisories.

    The Public Works Department has been instructed to keep machinery ready for road restoration and snow clearance, while the Power Department has been asked to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply. The Jal Shakti Department has also been directed to maintain smooth drinking water services.
    Meanwhile, the Police and Tourism Department have been told to strengthen traffic management and issue travel advisories for tourists.
    All departments have been asked to coordinate with the State and District Emergency Operation Centres (SEOC/DEOC) and share daily situation reports. The administration has appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather and strictly follow official advisories.

    प्रदेश के ऊंचाई वाले क्षेत्रों में रुक-रुक कर बर्फबारी का क्रम जारी है, जिससे प्रदेशभर में कड़ाके की ठंड पड़ रही है। आलम यह है कि 5 जिलों का पारा शून्य से नीचे चला गया है। पहाड़ से लेकर मैदान तक प्रचंड सर्दी की चपेट में आ गए हैं। शिमला में लगातार तीसरी रात पारा माइनस में दर्ज किया गया है। शिमला और सोलन में मनाली से अधिक ठंड पड़ रही है। मौसम विभाग ने अगले 3 दिन शीतलहर की चेतावनी जारी की है। मौसम विभाग के अनुसार 18 से 21 दिसम्बर तक प्रदेशभर में मौसम तो साफ बना रहेगा लेकिन इस बीच लोगों को भीषण सर्दी का सामना करना पड़ेगा। ऊना, हमीरपुर, बिलासपुर और सोलन जिलों में सुबह व शाम के समय घना कोहरा रहने की आशंका है। इससे दृष्यता 500 मीटर से कम हो सकती है। मौसम विभाग ने शिमला, चम्बा और इनके आसपास के क्षेत्रों में शीतलहर का अलर्ट जारी करते हुए लोगों को हिदायत दी है कि वे संबंधित विभागों द्वारा जारी की गई सलाह व दिशा-निर्देशों का पालन करें तथा सुरक्षा के पर्याप्त उपाय करें। सुबह व शाम के समय सैैर करने से बचें और सावधानी से यात्रा करें।
    मौसम विभाग के निदेशक डाॅ. सुरेंद्र पाल ने कहा कि अगले 3 दिन प्रदेश में शीतलहर की चेतावनी जारी की गई है। कई जगहों पर घने कोहरे की वजह से परेशानी हो सकती है। पश्चिमी विक्षोभ के मंद पड़ने से 21 दिसम्बर तक बारिश व बर्फबारी नहीं होगी लेकिन रात के तापमान में गिरावट से ठंड का प्रकोप बरकरार रहेगा। इस बीच प्रदेश के उच्च पर्वतीय क्षेत्रों में शुक्रवार को भी बर्फबारी का सिलसिला जारी रहा, जबकि शिमला व मैदानी क्षेत्रों में बादल छाए रहे। बीते 24 घंटों के दौरान चम्बा जिले के भरमौर में 5 सैंटीमीटर व कुफरी में 1 सैंटीमीटर बर्फबारी दर्ज की गई। लाहौल-स्पीति के केलांग में न्यूनतम तापमान -8 डिग्री दर्ज किया गया, वहीं किन्नौर के कल्पा में -4.4, कुफरी -2, शिमला व सोलन में -0.2, मनाली 0.6, सुंदरनगर 2.2, भुंतर 2.9, ऊना 2.6, नाहन 7.9, पालमपुर 2, कांगड़ा 2.8, मंडी 4, बिलासपुर 3.5, हमीरपुर 3, चम्बा 3.2, पांवटा साहिब 3.9 और जुब्बड़हट्टी में 4.3 डिग्री दर्ज किया गया है।

    बर्फबारी से 50 से अधिक सड़कें बंद

    सूबे के अधिक ऊंचे क्षेत्रों में ताजा हिमपात के बाद 50 से अधिक सड़कें यातायात के लिए बंद हो गई हैं। वीरवार देर रात कुफरी, नारकंडा व खड़ापत्थर समेत भरमौर, मनाली, किन्नौर और लाहौल-स्पीति के अधिक ऊंचे क्षेत्रों में हल्का हिमपात दर्ज किया गया है। इससे वाहनों की आवाजाही पर असर पड़ा है। 32 सड़कें लाहौल-स्पीति में बीते 10 दिनों से बंद पड़ी हैं, वहीं 30 से अधिक पेयजल योजनाओं से पानी की आपूर्ति भी प्रभावित हुई है। तापमान गिरने से कई पेयजल योजनाएं जम गई हैं।
