Himachal Pradesh remained on high alert on Sunday as relentless monsoon showers continued to lash several parts of the state, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in vulnerable districts. Authorities have warned of an increased risk of landslides, flash floods, mudslides, waterlogging and disruption to essential services.
The weather department has forecast that the active monsoon spell is likely to persist over the coming days, with intense rainfall expected in several districts. Kangra, Una and Sirmaur are among the districts under an orange alert, while other parts of the state remain under a yellow alert. Residents living near rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.
Heavy rainfall has already affected normal life in several areas, with reports of road blockades, waterlogging and disruption to vehicular movement. Restoration teams are on standby to clear debris and reopen roads wherever required, while district administrations are closely monitoring the situation.
The IMD has cautioned that heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods in low-lying areas, reduce visibility on highways and increase the likelihood of falling rocks and landslides in hilly regions. Tourists have also been urged to exercise caution and follow advisories issued by local authorities before planning travel.
Officials have appealed to the public to stay updated through official weather bulletins, avoid venturing near swollen rivers and nullahs, and report any emergency to the local administration immediately as the monsoon remains active across Himachal Pradesh.
