    Eminent Engineer Award presented to Devendra Kumar Sharma, Chairman, HPERC by the Institution of Engineers, (India)

    Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission, Shri Devendra Kumar Sharma, has been given Eminent Engineer Award by the Institution of Engineers, (India) on 16th October, 2022 during the inaugural session of the 37th National Convention of Civil Engineers & National Conference on Emerging Technologies & Seismic Concerns being held in Indore from 16th to 17th October, 2022.

    This Award is given to a person who has made significant contribution in the field of engineering. Institution of Engineers lauded significant contribution made by Sh Sharma in the field of engineering for construction and operation & maintenance of dams and hydroelectric projects and in managing the assets of national importance. Institution of Engineers appreciated the work and contributions made by Sh Sharma during the last forty one years in water resources and energy sectors in remote and difficult locations throughout the Country.

    Sharma thanked the Institution of Engineers for the award and dedicated this award to his family members and team mates who worked with him on challenging assignments during his professional career of 41 years. He said that hopefully, this award would inspire young engineers coming from small towns and villages with big dreams. He said that he is deeply honored for recognition of his contribution towards the Nation Building.

    Sharma also delivered an address on ‘Energy Transition, Climate Change and Dam Safety in India’ during the National Convention. Sh Sharma is also a Member of the National Security Advisory Board, National Security Council Secretariat, New Delhi.

    SJVN organise Bijli Mahotsav in 21 locations across the country

    Nand Lal Sharma, CMD SJVN informed  SJVN assisted in organising total 21 Bijli Mahotsav under Ujjawal Bharat, Ujjawal Bhavishya – Power @ 2047 across the country. These celebrations were organised in four locations of Himachal Pradesh, nine locations of Punjab, six locations in Haryana, one each location in Bihar and Maharashtra.

    Nand Lal Sharma CMD, SJVN stated that these celebrations are amongst series of week-long events being organised from 25th July to 30th July 2022 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Ministry of Power, and Govt. of India Which are being organised across the country.

    SJVN in association with HPSEBL and District Administration organised Bijli Mahotsav in four locations in Himachal Pradesh namely at Bhoranj, Palampur, Sunni in Shimla, Una.

    Similarly, in Punjab, SJVN along with BEE, BBMB, PSPCL and Distt administration of Punjab organised Bijli Mahotsav in nine locations, namely at Mullanpur in Mohali, Dhuri in Sangrur, Barnala City, Fatehgarh Sahib City, Batala in Gurudaspur, Jalandhar City, Raikot in Ludhiana, Mulki in Ferozepur and Jhunia in Mansa.

    The celebration in Mullanpur, Mohali was graced by Hon’ble Minister of Power, Punjab, Shri Harbhajan Singh. In Dhuri, Sangrur Hon’ble Finance Minister, Sh. Harpal Singh Cheema graced the event as Chief Guest. In Barnala, City Hon’ble sports & Youth Welfare Minister, Punjab Sh.Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer presided over the function.

    In Bihar Kiratpura, Buxar SJVN along with Distt Administration of Buxar organised the event and and in Maharashtra event was organized in Shirdi, Ahmednagar by SJVN & Distt administration.

    In Haryana, program was organised at six locations by SJVN along with Distt administration namely Narayangarh in Ambala, Ambala City, Kaithal City, Kachhwa in Karnal, Pinjore in Panchkula, Bilsapur in Yumunanager. In Ambala City and in

    Karnal City the program was graced by Hon’ble Women and Child Development Minister, Haryana, Smt. Kamlesh Dhanda, Hon’ble Education Minister, Haryana, Sh. Kanwar Pal Gujjar presided over the program in Bilsapur, Yumunanager.

    Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN stated that till date SJVN has assisted in organising 64 Bijli Mahotsav across the Country, with fifteen locations in Himachal, thirty-four in Punjab, nine in Haryana, two in Bihar, two in Gujarat and one in Maharashtra.

    The event is showcasing unprecedented growth in Power Sector over last eight years under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi. To publicize the successes of the Energy Sector, various educational & cultural programs, nukkad nataks and screening of short films were also organized.

    Sharma further apprised, that this week-long campaign, would conclude with Grand Finale scheduled on 30th July 2022, which will be organised on virtual mode with Hon’ble PM, in 100 locations across the country.

    Out of these 100 identified locations, where address of the Hon’ble PM will be Live broadcasted, SJVN shall assist in organising the Grand Finale in 7 locations namely Panchkula, Karnal & Panipat in Haryana, Jalandhar in Punjab and Shimla & Chamba in Himachal. Besides, the Grand Finale event where Hon’ble Prime Minister shall be interacting with the beneficiaries of the Central Govt. Schemes shall be held in Thunag, Distt. Mandi in Live interaction mode.

    Sharma stated that SJVN is making all efforts for ensuring smooth and successful convening of this week-long National Drive.

    Chairman of HP Electricity Regulatory Commission, Devendra Kumar Sharma Elected as Chairman of Asia Pacific Group of the International Commission on Large Dams

    Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission, Devendra kumar Sharma has been elected as Chairman of Asia Pacific Group of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) in a meeting held at Marseille, France on 28th May,2022 during the 90th Annual General Body Meeting and 27th Congress of ICOLD. Asia Pacific Group has 28 member countries including India.

    These countries work together for exchange of the knowledge in the field of planning, design, construction and safety of dams.

    The International Commission On Large Dams (ICOLD) provides a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience in dam engineering. The Organization leads the profession in ensuring that dams are built safely, efficiently, economically, and without detrimental effects on the environment. Its original aim was to encourage advances in the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of large dams and their associated civil works, by collecting and disseminating relevant information and by studying related technical questions.

    After his election, Mr Sharma while addressing the Asia Pacific Member Countries of the International Commission on Large Dams mentioned that Asia Pacific Group countries are economic power house of the world and his focus would be to make this Group countries as knowledge of hub in the field of dam engineering. Election of Shri Sharma also becomes significant in view of the Dam Safety Act 2021 enacted by the Government of India in December, 2021.

    Devendra Kumar Sharma who joined as Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission on 26th September, 2020 has more than 40 years of experience in energy and water resources sectors in India and abroad.

    He is also member of the National security Advisory Board in National Security Council, Govt of India and member of the National Committee on Dam Safety. Prior to joining Regulatory Commission, he worked as chairman, Bhakra Beas Management Board, Ministry of Power, Government of India, from April, 2017 to July, 2020 where he was responsible for managing assets of National importance, viz, dams and six power houses of having aggregate capacity of 2919 MW and 3705 km long 400 KV and below transmission system.

    Earlier, he was Managing Director of Himachal Power Corporation Ltd. (a Govt. of Himachal Pradesh Undertaking) from september, 2012 to April, 2017.

    Devendra Kumar Sharma, Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission conferred ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ in a ceremony of Indian Concrete Institute at Shimla

    This Life Time Achievement Award has been given to Sharma for the overall excellence and contribution in water and energy sectors.

    Sharma is also a member of the National Security Advisory Board, Govt of India.Previously, he was Chairman of Bhakra Beas Management Board from April, 2017 to July, 2020. Indian Concrete Institute lauded significant contribution made by Sh Sharma in managing the assets of national importance and his specific contribution in the fields of water resources, dam safety, operation and maintenance of dams and hydroelectric projects and distribution of water and electricity to the partner states during his tenure in BBMB. Indian Concrete Institute, Shimla Centre representing appreciated the work and contributions made by Sh Sharma during the last forty years in water resources, dam engineering, hydroelectric projects and energy sector throughout the Country.

    Sharma thanked Indian Concrete Institute for conferring upon him this award and dedicated the award to his team mates who worked with him on challenging assignments during his professional career of more than 40 years. He also thanked his family members for their continuous support throughout his career. He said that hopefully, this award would inspire young professionals working for national water and energy security. He said that he is deeply honored for recognition of his contribution towards Nation Building.

    Sharma has professional experience in water resources, dam engineering and energy sectors. He has worked on planning, design, construction and operation & maintenance of number of dams for irrigation and hydroelectric projects throughout the country as well as in Bhutan.

    Prof. P.K. Khosla, Vice Chancellor, Shoolini University has been appointed Chairman of Education Committee of Himachal Pradesh State Chapter, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, (PHDCCI).

    Prof. Khosla, said “I will utilise my vast experience of academics and research to promote education policy in Himachal Pradesh. He further added that Covid-19 Pandemic has posed a serious challenge before the education system and it needs to be treated carefully”. He also said that, to work on the education policies and issues related in education sector upswings due to COVID-19 will be his priority in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, (PHDCCI).

    Prof Khosla is a former Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University and a former Advisor Biotech to the Himachal Pradesh government. He subsequently led the founding of Shoolini University which is now rubbing shoulders with global universities in the field of research.

    Prof. Khosla has been awarded the Seth Memorial Award – Society of Tree Scientists for Outstanding Achievement in Forestry and Life Time Achievement Award, Indian Society of True Scientists. He is a Fellow of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, India, Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding, India and International Society of Tropical – Foresters, USA. He is also Founder Secretary, Indian Society of Tree Scientists, India.
