    World Hepatitis Day: LR Institute of Pharmacy holds awareness drive in Solan

    Solan: LR Institute of Pharmacy, Ochghat, marked World Hepatitis Day with an awareness programme aimed at educating students about hepatitis prevention, early detection and timely treatment.

    Assistant Professor of Pharmacology Mukesh Sharma delivered an expert lecture titled “Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down”, explaining the different types of hepatitis, modes of transmission, risk factors, symptoms, vaccination, screening and the importance of early medical intervention. He also highlighted the crucial role pharmacists play in spreading health awareness and preventing the disease.

    The programme was organised under the guidance of Managing Director Shachi Singh, Dean Academics Dr P. P. Sharma, and Principal Dr Avneet Gupta. Faculty members, department heads and students participated actively in the interactive session, which concluded with a discussion and a vote of thanks.

    The institute said the initiative reflects its commitment to promoting public health education and encouraging students to actively participate in community awareness campaigns.

    An expert talk on different types of Hepatitis was organized at the Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni on Saturday evening. Dr. Brij Sharma, Professor and Head, Department of Gastroenterology, IGMC Shimla was the expert speaker at the event.

    Addressing the gathering of NSS volunteers and NCC cadets, Dr. Sharma shed light on acute and chronic Hepatitis. He educated the gathering about the different causes of Hepatitis and its mode of transmission and the incubation period. Calling for more education among the people about Hepatitis, Dr. Sharma informed that globally over 400 million people suffer from Hepatitis B and C. He talked about common symptoms if someone is suffering from Hepatitis. He said that the Govt of India and the Himachal Government were providing testing and treatment facilities to the patients for B and C variants.

     

    He also cleared some common misconceptions regarding jaundice especially related to the diet. Dr. Sharma said that if a person suffers from jaundice, there are no diet restrictions and one should be given a homemade high-protein diet at short intervals. A documentary on the high prevalence of Hepatitis B and C in the Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh and the success of the study done by the Department of Gastroenterology, IGMC Shimla was also shown to the participants.

     

    Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajeshwar Singh Chandel thanked Dr. Brij Sharma for an informative lecture on the important topic of hepatitis. He said that the university had targeted specific student groups, especially the NCC cadets and NSS volunteers to spread the message to other students. Student welfare Officer Dr. Rajesh Bhalla delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. Nitu Sharma, Assistant Professor, IGMC, Medical officers and staff, NCC officers and NSS coordinators, staff of Student Welfare Office were among the 200 persons who took part in the event.
