Shimla:
The Central Government has provided detailed information regarding education and rural road development in Himachal Pradesh in response to questions raised in the Lok Sabha by BJP leader and Member of Parliament Rajeev Bhardwaj during Budget Session–II.
On March 9, 2026, MP Rajeev Bhardwaj asked the Ministry of Education about the number of Kendriya Vidyalayas currently functioning in Himachal Pradesh and the plans to open new ones in the state.
Responding to the query, Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary informed the Lok Sabha that at present 26 Kendriya Vidyalayas are functioning in Himachal Pradesh. Out of these, six are located in Kangra district and four in Chamba district, providing quality education to students.
He further stated that in 2025, a total of 56 new Kendriya Vidyalayas were approved across the country, including six proposed schools in Himachal Pradesh. The proposed locations include Rehdi in Kangra district, Gokul Nagar Upper Bhagal and Nandpur in Una district, Ghunag in Mandi district, and new Kendriya Vidyalayas in Sirmaur and Shimla districts.
Rajeev Bhardwaj said Kendriya Vidyalayas are known for providing high-quality education and are particularly beneficial for children of transferable employees of the central government, including personnel from defence and paramilitary forces. He added that in a state like Himachal Pradesh, where many families serve in the armed and paramilitary forces, the importance of these schools is even greater.
In another question raised on March 10, 2026, Rajeev Bhardwaj sought details from the Ministry of Rural Development regarding roads sanctioned and constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in the Nurpur Assembly constituency of Kangra district.
Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan informed the House that since the launch of the scheme, a total of 26,505 km of roads and 147 bridges have been approved in Himachal Pradesh across four phases.
He further stated that in Kangra district alone, 3,558 km of roads and 17 bridges have been completed so far. In addition, within Nurpur block, 272 km of road length and two bridges have been constructed.
Rajeev Bhardwaj said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government is continuously working to strengthen road connectivity in rural and remote areas. He added that the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana is a key initiative aimed at connecting remote villages with all-weather roads.
He said these projects are strengthening education and infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh while providing better connectivity and facilities to people living in rural areas.
