Shimla city residents will soon get 24 hours water. Sutlej drinking water scheme will provide 24-hour drinking water in the capital is finally going to get off the ground. Five wards of Sanjauli zone will start getting 24-hour water supply this year. There are preparations to provide regular water to about three thousand drinking water consumers of Sanjauli Chowk, Engine Ghar, Sangti, Shanti Vihar and Malyana wards from November. According to the company, the work of connecting these consumers to new drinking water lines has been completed. They will be supplied water from the water storage tank built near the corner house of Sanjauli area.
Presently water for this tank is provided from Jakhu tank. Now it will be filled from the main water storage tank of Sanjauli to provide water 24 hours. For this, two pumps are being installed near the main tank. The drinking water company has started the process for purchasing the pump. A target has been set to complete the purchase of the pump and its testing by the end of October. In the first phase of the World Bank project, the target has been to provide 24-hour water supply in Sanjauli zone. The company has successfully conducted a trial of providing 24-hour water to about 200 consumers in Sangti ward.
24 hours water will be available from November: General Manager
Under the World Bank project, preparations are being made to provide 24-hour drinking water facility in five wards of Sanjauli zone. People will get this facility from November. Water will be available daily in entire Shimla city by May 2025
Shimla. Through the World Bank Drinking Water Project worth Rs 1813 crore, the entire city will get 24-hour water supply by May 2025. The work of this project is being done in two phases. The first phase has started in which a 22 km long drinking water line is being laid from Shakrodi to Shimla. Besides, pumping stations and water storage tanks are also being prepared. In the second phase, new drinking water lines and 40 water storage tanks will be built in Shimla city. Its tender is in the final stages. Preparations are on to award it in the board of directors meeting this month.
The work of laying the 15 kilometer long line can be completed by the end of this year. All the work of laying the main line and testing will be done next year. The largest drinking water line of 750 mm size in the state is being laid in this project. Under this scheme, Shimla city will get 66 MLD water daily from Satluj. The company has given the responsibility of this work to the team led by Assistant Engineer Ranjeev Sharma. The people of the city are especially waiting for the completion of this scheme.
A target has been set to complete the work of the capital’s biggest tank being built in Dhali this year. Most of the work on this tank with a capacity of ten MLD has been completed. A big office is also being prepared for the company on top of this tank. Currently, Sanjauli has the largest tank in the city with a capacity of about seven MLD. On the other hand, a big tank with a capacity of eight MLD is also being built near Peterhof. Its work is also targeted to be completed this year.
Specialty of the project
24 hours water to consumers of Sanjauli zone from November
Sutlej water will reach Sanjauli by laying 22 km line from Shakrodi.
From May 2025, all 35 thousand consumers of the city will get 24 hours water.
40 storage tanks will be built in the city, about 200 kilometers of new lines will be laid.
New AMR meters will be installed in homes, drinking water bills will be issued automatically
Apart from Shimla city, adjoining panchayats will also get water.
Drinking water supply in the city is often affected due to siltation during the rainy season.
After the completion of this scheme, this problem will also be solved.
People will not have to face water crisis during rainy and summer seasons.
Work of laying ten kilometer pipeline completed, two tanks will be ready next year
Half of the work on the main drinking water line being laid to deliver Sutlej water to Shimla is nearing completion. According to the drinking water company, a total of 22 km long drinking water line is to be laid from Shakrodi to Shimla. Till now the work of laying about ten kilometer long line has been completed. Presently this line is being laid in forest areas away from the city. After this, this line will be laid by excavating the road between the rural residential areas and the main city from Dhali to Sanjauli.
