Richika Mehta, Assistant Prof at the Faculty of Legal Sciences at Shoolini University, participated as a resource person at an in-service teacher training programme for lecturers and PGTs organised by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Himachal Pradesh at SCERT complex in Solan.
She delivered a lecture on POCSO Act 2012 to make school lecturers aware of the provisions mentioned under the POCSO Act 2012 . The students and teachers in schools should be aware of the offences as well as the punishments thereof under the Act. How do the trial system and examination of the victim take place once the offence has been committed.
Mehta also explained the different categories of sexual offences that are punishable under the Act, and discussed how mandatory it is to report the matter under the POCSO Act, the consequences in case of false reporting by the complainant, and how things need to be taken care of during the medical examination of the child and during the trial process. Ms. Richika also talked about different categories of offences covered under the Act, such as sexual assault, sexual harassment, and using a child for pornography.
