Moot Court Committee, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, successfully organized the 6th National Moot Court Competition, 2026, in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission of India. The competition marked yet another milestone in promoting advocacy skills and advancing discourse on human rights among law students across the country.
The Final Round of the competition was adjudicated by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sushil Kukreja, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Romesh Verma, Judges, H.P. High Court, Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, Vice Chancellor, MNLU, Nagpur and Sh. Peeyush Verma, Ld. Senior Advocate and Former President, H.P. High Court Bar Association whose presence and expert evaluation added great value to the proceedings. The Quarter-Final, Semi-Final, and Advanced Rounds were judged by esteemed members of the legal and academic fraternity, ensuring the highest standards of fairness and academic rigour throughout the competition.
The Valedictory Session of the competition was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur, whose presence added distinction and significance to the occasion.
The competition witnessed an overwhelming response, with 74 teams from prestigious law institutions and National Law Universities participating in the memorial qualification rounds. Based on their performance, 32 teams were shortlisted for the preliminary rounds conducted online, out of which 8 teams advanced to the Quarter-Finals held at the University campus. These included Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law; Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi; Chanakya National Law University, Patna; Symbiosis Law School, Pune; Army Institute of Law, Mohali; Institute of Law, Nirma University; School of Excellence in Law, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University; and Hidayatullah National Law University.
Following rigorous rounds of arguments, four teams, Army Institute of Law, Mohali; Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law; Symbiosis Law School, Pune; and School of Excellence in Law, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, advanced to the Semi-Finals. The Final Round witnessed a closely contested and intellectually stimulating exchange between Army Institute of Law, Mohali and School of Excellence in Law, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, with Army Institute of Law, Mohali emerging as the winning team.
Prizes were awarded across both team and individual categories in recognition of excellence in advocacy, research, and overall performance. The winning team was awarded a cash prize of INR 60,000 along with a certificate of excellence, followed by the first runner-up team, which received INR 40,000 and a certificate of excellence. In addition, awards for best team (petitioner) and best team (respondents) were conferred, each carrying a cash prize of INR 15,000 along with certificates of excellence.
In the individual categories, the best orator (male) and best orator (female) were each awarded a cash prize of INR 10,000 along with certificates of excellence, while the best researcher was awarded a cash prize of INR 20,000 along with a certificate of excellence. These awards recognized the outstanding advocacy skills, legal acumen, and research capabilities demonstrated by the participants throughout the competition.
The University expresses its deep appreciation to the National Human Rights Commission of India for its valuable collaboration, which significantly enhanced the stature and impact of the competition.
The 6th National Moot Court Competition, 2026 concluded on a successful note, reaffirming HPNLU’s commitment to excellence in legal education, advocacy training, and the promotion of human rights values.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Girjesh Shukla, Director, Centre for Clinical Legal Education and Dr. Shaifali Dixit, Chairperson, Moot Court Committee, HPNLU, Shimla whose supervision and direction ensured the smooth and effective execution of the competition.
