Preparations have begun to merge about 700 schools in Himachal Pradesh, which have five students. The education department has started mapping the distance of the schools to be merged from the adjoining schools. It has been asked to prepare a proposal in this regard this month.
Recently, Education Minister Rohit Thakur gave instructions to merge schools in the departmental review meeting. Such schools will be merged in the first phase, where there are schools located nearby. Students and teachers of these schools will be shifted to nearby schools. Departmental officials said that such schools will be merged in the first phase, where the number of students is less than five. There are about 700 such schools. Among these, there are about 80 schools were not even a single student has been admitted.
In the second phase, schools with ten students will be identified. In the year 2023, the number of students has also decreased by about 50 thousand as compared to 2022. This has been mentioned in the report of U Dice for the year 2023. After the Corona crisis, a huge decline has been seen in the number of students studying in government schools. Due to this, the state government has now decided to merge such schools where the number of students is nominal. Departmental officials said that the teachers appointed in such schools will be sent to other schools where the number of children is more and teachers are fewer. Children of the merged schools will also be admitted to adjoining schools.
There will be no compromise on the quality of education. A decision has been taken to merge schools to appoint an adequate number of teachers. Departmental officials have been asked to submit a report in this regard this month itself.
