To increase the income sources, the Congress-led Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) is set to hike property tax by 8 per cent in the budget for the financial year 2024-25.
The budget for 2024-25 will be presented on February 15. This will be the first budget of Congress-led Municipal Corporation . This year, the budget is expected to be of more than Rs 300 crore. Municipal Corporation Mayor Surinder Chauhan said the property tax will be hiked as per the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
He said the budget for the financial year 2024-25 is almost ready and added that the main focus of the budget will be to increase the income sources of the corporation as well as the development of the town.
He said before preparing the budget, he also took the suggestions from the Deputy Mayor, Councillors and public of the town Apart from this, the corporation will also be leasing and renting out idle land across the town.
The corporation is earning around Rs 21 crore by collecting property tax in the present.
