In Himachal Pradesh, about 100 schools with student strength of less than five have been closed, while 893 students are studying in the government primary school Baddi in the industrial area. It is being claimed that this school has the highest number of students in the state. Most of the industries here are children of migrant workers. Children are still coming for admission.
The school has 10 rooms and eight teachers. Due to lack of space for children to sit in the rooms, admission is now being refused. The primary school of Baddi is no less than a model for the government. More than 100 students are being seated in a room with a capacity of 50 to 60 students. Forget about having desks for students to sit in schools, many are not even getting sackcloth.
There are only eight teachers to teach these students. According to the rules of the Education Department, a teacher can teach only 40 students in a class. Here one teacher is forced to teach more than 100 children. In such a situation, it is difficult for teachers to see every child.
Being an industrial area, BBN has more migrant students. The working class cannot send their children to private schools. Due to this, all the workers also enroll their children in government schools. Head teacher Raj Thakur said that the number of rooms and teachers is less as per the number of students. Even now people are coming here with their children but due to shortage of rooms, new admissions are not being taken now.
