Shimla, Jan 1, 2026:
Apple growers in Himachal Pradesh have been facing increasing challenges in recent years due to changing weather patterns, reduced chilling hours, irregular rainfall, and frequent hailstorms. These factors have affected both apple production and fruit quality. To support farmers in improving yield and quality through better soil health, Adani Agri Fresh Limited (AAFL) has launched a phased Soil Testing Campaign across the state.
The campaign will be conducted from January 5 to January 22 in key apple-growing regions including Sainj, Rohru, and Rampur, with an expected participation of over 3,000 to 4,000 farmers.
According to the schedule, the drive began in Sainj from January 5 to January 12, followed by Rohru from January 13 to January 18, and will conclude in Rampur from January 18 to January 22.
During the campaign, soil testing experts, lab technicians, scientists associated with Nauni University, and plant pathology specialists are interacting directly with farmers. Growers are being educated on the importance of scientific soil testing before applying fertilizers, identifying nutrient deficiencies, selecting the right fertilizers, adopting correct pruning practices, and maintaining long-term soil health for sustainable apple farming.
AAFL has been working closely with Himachal’s apple farmers for years by supporting procurement during the buying season and providing technical guidance. The company had also conducted a similar soil testing initiative in November, which reportedly received positive feedback from growers. Many farmers shared that adjusting fertilizer use after soil testing helped improve apple quality.
The initiative is being viewed not only as a soil testing exercise but also as a step towards promoting scientific and sustainable orchard management in the region.
