Bilaspur
The Food Safety Department Bilaspur has taken a major action regarding health safety. The department had collected samples of nutritional supplements i.e. multi-vitamin products from a major medical store of the city some time ago for testing. During the investigation, three different samples were taken, which were sent to the food testing lab. All these samples have been found to fail in the investigation report, after which the department has taken strict action against the medical store and imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh.
The investigation found that the amount of nutrients in the three nutritional supplements whose samples were taken by the Food Safety Department was neither within the prescribed limit as per the standards nor did it match the details given on the label. The presence of harmful chemical elements was also recorded in some products, which raised serious questions on the quality of the products. After the report came, the department has started the process of banning these products with immediate effect.
Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety Department Bilaspur, Mahesh Kashyap said that ‘those who play with health will not be spared under any circumstances. Under the Food Safety Act, a fine of Rs 3 lakh has been imposed on the medical store, which is the biggest fine imposed in the district so far. Such action will continue in future as well.’
It is worth noting that in today’s time the consumption of multivitamins and nutritional products is increasing rapidly. From the youth to the elderly are using these supplements, but the market is full of fake and poor quality products, which are not only wasting people’s hard-earned money, but have also become a serious threat to their health. Consumption of uncertified and tested products can prove to be fatal.
The Food Safety Department has appealed to the general public to check its FSSAI authentication, production and expiry date, and labeling thoroughly while purchasing any nutritional or food product. Also, immediately inform the department about any suspicious product or shop, so that action can be taken in time.
