The School of Media and Mass Communication at APG Shimla University celebrated National Public Relations Day with great enthusiasm and active participation from students and faculty members. The event focused on understanding the importance of public relations in today’s world and how it plays a key role in building the image of organizations.
National PR Day is observed every year on April 21 and has been celebrated in India since 1986. It was started by the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) to highlight the role of PR professionals and to promote professional values, communication ethics, and awareness in the field.
During the celebration, Dr. Neelam Sharma, Dean of Student Welfare, spoke about the need for effective communication between organizations and the public. She said that public relations is a powerful tool that helps build trust, manage reputation, and maintain transparency.
Dr. Vijay Shree, Assistant Professor, shared her thoughts on why this day is special for PR professionals. She said that Public Relations professionals act as the “eyes and ears” of their organizations. She reminded everyone that the true role of a PR person is to promote the work of the organization and not to seek personal attention. “A real PR professional stays behind the scenes and lets their work speak for itself. Ashwani Sharma, Assistant Professor, also spoke about how public relations is changing in today’s digital world. He encouraged students to learn new technologies and communication tools but also to follow ethical and professional practices.
One of the highlights of the event was the poster and chart-making activity by students. Students prepared colorful and informative posters and charts showcasing the meaning, history, and importance of public relations. These were displayed on campus and appreciated by faculty members. The activity helped students understand PR in a creative and engaging way.
Ritesh Sharma, Student Coordinator, played an important role in organizing the event and spreading awareness among students about the significance of Public Relations. He motivated his fellow students to take part in the celebration and learn more about this growing field.
The event ended with a strong message that today’s PR students should be trained not only with theory but also with practical knowledge and modern tools to meet the challenges of the digital age. Faculty members encouraged students to stay updated and work with honesty, responsibility, and dedication.
The celebration was both educational and inspiring. It helped students understand the real spirit of public relations and motivated them to become responsible communication professionals in the future.
