The new academic session at APG Shimla University began on Friday with a welcoming ceremony and orientation program for new students. The event commenced with a Saraswati Vandana and lamp lighting ceremony. Prof. Dr. Shivnath Ghosh, Head of the Psychology Department at Himachal Pradesh University, graced the occasion as the chief guest. The Chancellor of APG Shimla University, Engineer Suman Vikrant, Pro-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ramesh Chauhan, and Vice Chancellor Prof. R.S. Chauhan warmly welcomed the chief guest Prof. Shivnath Ghosh with Himachali caps and shawls.
During the orientation program, Vice Chancellor Prof. R.S. Chauhan encouraged students to become self-reliant and make the most of their time at the university for their future careers. He extended his best wishes for their bright future, emphasizing that APG Shimla University is committed to providing quality education and shaping successful careers. He noted that education is knowledge and knowledge is power, achievable when education and knowledge are applied practically in real life. Prof. Chauhan highlighted that the educational process is lifelong, fostering character building, successful living skills, and innovation. APG Shimla University is dedicated to offering facilities that support these aspects, following the new national education policy and leveraging technology to enhance students’ skills and talents. He also mentioned the introduction of new health-related courses last year, urging students to maintain regular attendance and make the most of their time for higher education.
Chief Guest Dr. Shivnath Ghosh emphasized the importance of mental health, advising students to follow a proper routine to stay strong in every aspect of life. He encouraged students to balance academics with extracurricular activities and sports to achieve holistic development, addressing and resolving any causes of depression to lead a happy life.
Registrar Dr. Ankit Thakur provided an overview of the university, detailing various departments, schools, courses, and regulatory bodies like UGC. Dr. Maninder Kaur, Head of the Science Department, introduced the university’s academic activities, courses, departments, and innovative initiatives through a short documentary.
Dean of Student Welfare, Dr. Neelam Sharma, informed new students about various committees established to address student issues and support their overall development. She provided an overview of the university’s academic standards, anti-ragging committee, cultural activities, clubs, and other university activities.
Deputy Controller of Examinations, Vinit Thakur, briefed new students on the university’s examination system, semester exams, results, and related rules.
Following the program, new students were familiarized with the university campus and toured various departments.
