In Himachal Pradesh, apple season starts now. Orchardists in the Kullu area are also exporting apples from their orchards to marketplaces in other states. In one instance, it was discovered that certain vendors in the Kullu district were shipping apples by bus rather than jeep or truck. Some vendors are using Volvo buses to transport apples and other produce to marketplaces outside. The local truck and jeep union is also losing money as a result of this. Moreover, APMC does not receive taxes.
The APMC and RTO flying squad established a checkpoint near Bajaura during this time. They discovered that apples and other vegetables were being moved in the box underneath the Volvo bus while people were on the top. The flying squad team then confronted these buses and threatened to revoke their permission if they were seen engaging in such behavior once more.
“Apples and vegetables are being delivered in Volvo buses, which has been the subject of complaints over the previous few days. In this case, we established a checkpoint in Bajaura and pulled over a few buses, some of which were transporting apples. As a result, a Rs 25,000 challan has been issued. They have also been informed that a trader’s license may be revoked if they are discovered to be engaged in the shipment of apples or vegetables in this manner. – APMC Kullu Secretary Shagun Sood
Notably, some Kullu area businessmen utilize Volvo buses to deliver apples and other crops to markets in Chandigarh, Delhi, and other states. In this case, they are exempt from paying the market charge set by APMC as well as the truck union fee. The truck and jeep unions are also losing a lot of money as a result of the transportation of apples in Volvo buses. At the same time, the union is hopeful that merchants will now use the truck or jeep union to pay the market charge and transport their goods to other states’ marketplaces as a result of the department’s action.
