Atal Tunnel (Rohtang Tunnel) shall remain closed for vehicular movement from 9AM to 10AM and 4PM to 5PM daily for maintenance purpose.
There are rumours that toll will be charged for using Atal Tunnel. This is not true. Toll is charged when a road project is based on BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer).. Atal Tunnel is fully funded by Ministry of Defence, so nobody can charge anything. However, if traffic congestion starts affecting local ecology, green tribunal will surely order HP govt to charge green cess as environment compensation so that money collected could be used to increase green cover.
