Attack on Police Team in Kullu Exposes Serious Breakdown of Law and Order Under Congress Government: Rakesh Jamwal

Drug Mafia Operating Fearlessly Under Congress Rule; If Police Are Not Safe, Who Will Protect the Common People: Rakesh Jamwal

Shimla: BJP Chief Spokesperson and MLA Rakesh Jamwal strongly condemned the shocking incident in which a mob allegedly attacked a police team and forcibly freed two accused persons apprehended in a charas trafficking case in the Jakrehad area of Lag Valley in Kullu district. He termed the incident a serious challenge to law and order and a disturbing reflection of the deteriorating security situation under the Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Jamwal said that according to reports, the police intercepted two suspects following specific intelligence inputs and recovered charas from their possession. However, a mob of approximately 40 people, allegedly including a woman panchayat pradhan, attacked the police personnel and forcibly rescued the accused. The police subsequently managed to recover 508 grams of charas that had fallen on the road.

He said that such incidents raise serious questions about the functioning of the state government. When criminals allegedly dare to attack police personnel in broad daylight and obstruct lawful action against drug trafficking, it reflects a deeply concerning situation for law enforcement in Himachal Pradesh.

Taking a strong dig at the Congress government, Jamwal said that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who also holds the Home portfolio, cannot escape accountability for the state’s law-and-order situation. He questioned why criminals appear increasingly emboldened and why the government has failed to instil sufficient fear of the law among those involved in illegal activities.

“The Congress government makes tall claims about maintaining law and order and eliminating the drug menace, but incidents like these expose the gap between its promises and ground realities. If police personnel themselves are attacked while performing their duties, how can ordinary citizens feel secure?” Jamwal questioned.

The BJP Chief Spokesperson further stated that Himachal Pradesh is already grappling with the serious challenge of drug abuse, particularly the growing threat of chitta and other narcotic substances among the youth. At such a critical time, incidents involving the forcible rescue of suspected drug traffickers send a dangerous message and undermine the efforts of law-enforcement agencies.

Jamwal demanded the immediate arrest of all individuals involved in the attack, the rearrest of the accused and a thorough, impartial investigation into the incident. He also called for an investigation into any possible political protection or external pressure, should evidence of such involvement emerge.

“The Chief Minister must explain why such brazen incidents are taking place under his government. Himachal Pradesh cannot be allowed to become a safe haven for drug traffickers and those who challenge the authority of the police,” Jamwal asserted.

He reiterated that the BJP stands firmly with the police in the fight against narcotics and will continue to demand accountability from the Congress government to safeguard the future of Himachal Pradesh’s youth.
