An awareness camp on Natural Farming and Animal Husbandry was organised under the Integrated Watershed Management Programme(IWMP) at Nauni Majhgaon Gram Panchayat. Dr. Parvinder Kaushal, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Panchayat Pradhan Madan Himachali welcomed the chief guest and informed that the event is being organised for creating awareness about natural farming and animal husbandry. Speaking on the occasion, Ramesh Kumar Sharma, Block Development Officer Solan said that under IWMP over Rs 6.17 crore has been spent on various works like water storage tanks, check dams and afforestation activities, etc. in 14 panchayats. Dr. Nitin Sehgal, Veterinary officer talked about the various diseases in livestock. He shared information about the various schemes of the government for the purchase of indigenous cows.
Dr. Kuldeep Thakur, Principal Scientist, UHF Nauni shed light on the basics of natural farming. Dr. Thakur apprised the farmers of the benefits of natural farming and urged them to make a gradual shift towards this farming system to produce good quality foodstuff. Manoj Verma, Solan Zila Parishad member, called upon the farmers to learn the latest techniques in farming. He was of the view that farmers needed to become entrepreneurs so that they can increase their incomes.
Dr.Parvinder Kaushal complimented the implementing authority for successfully implementing the watershed project. He said that development was important for everyone. He added that the old and new generations need to exchange their ideas with each other so that there is a balance. Dr. Kaushal said that youth is looking to do good by implementing their new ideas in a proper scientific manner. He exhorted the participants to adopt techniques like natural farming so that they can see the benefits of this farming technique. He said the university has developed several low-cost technologies which can prove to be highly beneficial for adoption in realizing the goal of increasing farmers’ income.
Along with farmers from the area, panchayat representatives, local bank officials, pradhan of Shamrod panchayat attended the camp.
