Awareness campaign for encouraging scientific thinking organized
To promote the spirit of discovery and raise awareness about scientific advancements, the Department of Basic Science, Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni organized several activities under a three-week campaign in collaboration with HP Council of Science, Technology and Environment with support from National Council for Science and Technology Communication, GoI.
The department organized expert lectures, painting, quiz competitions, poster making, essay writing, declamation, and night sky observation as part of the program to encourage students to study and promote scientific thought among youth. To foster scientific innovation and acumen among students and faculty, Dr. Saravanan Raj, Director (Agriculture Extension), MANAGE, Hyderabad, and Ravi Bibhuty, CEO and Co-founder of Mountstribe Agritech, Dehradun delivered a talk on ‘Start-Up Problem Statement Exploration’, where they motivated students on starting their enterprise and the various government schemes which could be availed for this purpose.
As part of the programme, the department also celebrated National Science Day under the theme Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat which highlighted the importance of traditional knowledge in scientific advancement. Additionally, program coordinators Dr. Ashu Chandel and Dr. Neerja Rana along with the faculty and students of the Department of Basic Sciences visited Government Senior Secondary School, Kothon and Galanag where several science competitions were organized for the school students to bolster the spirit of scientific inquiry and creativity among them.
