The School of Sciences, Baddi University organized an educational industrial visit for the students of Chemistry and M.Sc. bicrobiology on 26 April 2025 to Unichem Laboratories Limited at Bhatauli Kalan, Baddi. Unichem Laboratories stands among India’s premier pharmaceutical companies, known for its strong emphasis on research, innovation, manufacturing excellence, and adherence to global regulatory standards. The Baddi unit serves as a vital production hub specializing in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and finished dosage forms.The visit began with an introductory presentation by the Head of Unit-III, who shared insights into Unichem history, growth trajectory, and milestones achieved in the pharmaceutical sector. Mr. Sahil Gautam (HR) addressed the students and provided detailed safety instructions and precautionary measures to be followed before entering the laboratory areas.Following the briefing, Mr. Vikas Chandel (Executive) guided the students through various operational sections of the facility, including the Production Unit, Warehouse, Packaging Unit, Store Unit, and API Unit. He explained the types of raw materials used in the manufacture of medicinal tablets and demonstrated the use of SAP software for production and printing activities. During the visit, the students explored different departments like Raw Material Handling, Manufacturing, Packaging, Quality Control (QC), and Quality Assurance (QA).Adding to the technical depth of the visit, Mr. Ravi Kumar (Deputy Manager) explained the operation and importance of critical analytical instruments including High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer (FTIR). Students observed live manufacturing and packaging processes, particularly focusing on antibiotic tablet production, gaining hands-on understanding of each stage involved. In addition to observing production practices, the students learned about the significance of GMP protocols, Quality Control measures, and regulatory compliance that ensure product quality and patient safety. They also viewed the modern manufacturing equipment used for quality analysis of pharmaceutical products.
