Shimla:
Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, the Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank organized an awareness programme against drug abuse, during which officers and employees, led by Bank Chairman Sanjay Singh Chauhan, took an oath to help build a drug-free society.
The state government, under the leadership of the Chief Minister, has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and is taking firm and decisive steps to curb the menace. The Chief Minister has emphasized that eliminating drug abuse requires active participation from every section of society.
During the programme, speakers highlighted that the harmful effects of drug abuse—especially the deadly drug Chitta—are not confined to individuals alone but have far-reaching consequences for families, society, the state, and the nation. They noted that this growing threat poses a serious challenge to Himachal Pradesh, known as the Land of Gods and a peaceful state, and called for collective and sustained efforts to combat it.
On the occasion, all officers and employees of the bank pledged to contribute towards creating a drug-free Himachal Pradesh. The oath was taken with a firm resolve to adopt its spirit in daily life and work.
Addressing the gathering, Bank Chairman Sanjay Singh Chauhan said that drug addiction adversely affects every section of society, with youth being the most vulnerable. He stressed that as responsible bank employees, it is their duty not only to stay away from drugs themselves but also to spread awareness among customers, society, and young people about the dangers of drug abuse.
He further emphasized that protecting human life must remain the top priority and that a drug-free society can only be achieved through honesty, discipline, and a strong sense of social responsibility. Bank Directors Devendra Negi, Satish Kumar Bakseth, Ashwani Kumar, and Devi Singh Jishtu were also present at the programme.
At the conclusion, all officers and employees reaffirmed their commitment to work wholeheartedly towards the creation of a drug-free Himachal Pradesh.
