Marking the 166th Founder’s Day on 28th July 2025, the 26th Mountaineering Expedition Team of BCS embarked on a momentous journey, upholding the rich legacy of adventure and resilience. The emotional send-off at the school fountain, surrounded by encouraging cheers from staff and peers, flagged off by the board members Mr. Anil Mehra and Mrs. Rita Wilson, set the tone for an extraordinary expedition.
Led by experienced mountaineers Mr. Amod Talwalkar and Mr. Viresh Kumar Dogra, the nine-member team — comprising seven students and two staff — set its sights on conquering Mt. Kiagar Ri, a formidable peak towering at 6,100 meters.
Touchdown in Leh – July 29 The team landed in Leh after departing from Chandigarh, greeted by the awe-inspiring terrain of Ladakh. With snow-draped mountains and sweeping desert-like valleys, the region provided the perfect backdrop for their acclimatization phase.
Cultural Immersion & Altitude Training – July 30–August 1 The acclimatization process began with treks to increasing altitudes. Highlights included visits to local landmarks such as the Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace, and Tsemo Monastery, offering cultural enrichment alongside physical preparation. By August 1, the team had reached the iconic Khardung La Pass at 5,480 meters.
Base Camp Setup – August 2 With acclimatization successfully completed, the team journeyed to the base camp situated at 4,650 meters. Amidst dropping temperatures and rising anticipation, the climbers set up camp and braced for the final challenge.
Health Setbacks & Summit Strategy – August 3 The final acclimatization trek to 5,200 meters was met with unexpected medical challenges, as four members exhibited symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). After careful deliberation, it was decided that Mr. Dogra and three students would proceed with the summit attempt, prioritizing safety for the remaining team.
Conquering Kiagar Ri – August 4 At midnight, the summit team commenced their climb. Six and a half hours later, their triumphant ascent to Mt. Kiagar Ri’s peak was confirmed. Their safe return to base camp was met with celebration and pride.
Recovery & Exploration – August 5–6 Post-expedition, the group took time to rest and reflect on their achievements. They also explored Leh, visiting the scenic confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers and Gurudwara Shri Pathar Sahib, immersing themselves in its spiritual serenity.

The expedition stands as a testament to perseverance, teamwork, and the unwavering spirit of the BCS community — a journey marked by grit, grace, and growth.
