As part of the ongoing month-long Van Mahotsav campaign at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, the Department of Entomology, and the Student Welfare Organisation, organized plantation drives on the university campus.
On Wednesday, the Department of Entomology organised a plantation drive in which Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel was the chief guest. Dr. Manish Sharma, Dean of the College of Horticulture, HOD Dr. Subhash Chandra Verma, along with students and staff took part in the drive.
The department focused its efforts on planting trees that provide essential bee flora for the local honeybee population. The plantation took place at the university’s model farm, where 100 plants of bottle brush, Peltophorum, and Toona ciliata were planted. The department plans to plant a total of 300 plants in the coming days and will ensure their survival through dedicated care.
In a separate initiative, the Student Welfare Organisation planted deodar trees near the basketball court and university playground. This event was led by Dr. KK Raina, Dean Students’ Welfare, along with the SWO staff.
This year’s plantation drive at the university encompasses individual drives across various departments, constituent colleges, Regional Horticultural Research and Training Stations, and the Krishi Vigyan Kendras. The campaign will culminate on August 4, celebrating the birth anniversary of Dr. Y.S.Parmar.
