The situation is getting critical due to the continuous inflow of water in Bhakra Dam. With the water level only 3 feet away from the danger level, BBMB has now released 7 feet of water from the gates of the main Bhakra Dam. Earlier, this water was released upto 4 feet. According to BBMB sources, the floodgates of Bhakra Dam can be opened up to a maximum of 22 meters. On Tuesday also, about one lakh cusecs of water is being reported to have arrived.
On the other hand, due to the release of water from Bhakra Dam, the water level in the lower regions has increased. The entire lake from Bhakra to Nangal Dam has been filled to the brim. More than 35 thousand cusecs of water have been released from Nangal Dam into the Satluj River while 2 canals are already carrying more water than their capacity. The capacity of Bhakra Dam is 1680 feet and till 5 pm on Tuesday, the distance was being reported to be about 3 feet.
