The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Himachal Pradesh government, accusing Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of misleading the public over the issue of Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) and misusing central funds for non-developmental purposes.
State BJP spokesperson Sandipani Bhardwaj alleged that the Congress-led government has pushed the state into financial distress due to what she termed as “corrupt and inefficient policies.” She claimed that the Chief Minister was shedding “crocodile tears” over the discontinuation of RDG while failing to explain how thousands of crores received from the Centre under various schemes were utilized.
Bhardwaj accused the state government of diverting funds meant for development projects into the state treasury to meet salary payments and other expenditures. She further alleged that departments were pressured to issue “false and forced” Utilization Certificates (UCs) to justify fund transfers.
According to the BJP spokesperson, central funds allocated for key sectors such as railways, health, education, and infrastructure were not fully utilized for their intended purposes. She also alleged irregularities in project tendering, claiming that construction projects initially estimated at ₹30 crore had escalated to ₹100–150 crore under the current regime.
Bhardwaj said the Congress government must clarify why funds earmarked for hospitals, railway projects, and welfare schemes were allegedly rerouted. She demanded that the state government issue a White Paper detailing the expenditure of central funds and the status of projects executed under them.
She asserted that while Himachal Pradesh requires special financial assistance due to its geographical conditions, such support must be used transparently and responsibly. The BJP, she added, would raise the issue both inside and outside the Assembly to safeguard public interest.
The Congress government has not yet responded to the allegations.
