Rajendra Rana, senior BJP spokesperson in Himachal Pradesh and former Sujanpur MLA, has demanded the intervention of the Election Commission of India over the controversy related to the Rajya Sabha election from the state.
Rana alleged that serious questions have been raised regarding the certificate declaring Congress candidate Anurag Sharma elected to the Rajya Sabha. He said a detailed complaint has been submitted to the Chief Election Commissioner seeking disqualification of Sharma under Section 9A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
According to the complaint, Sharma’s affidavit states that his primary occupation is government contracting and that he holds several ongoing government contracts, which could attract disqualification under the Act.
Rana claimed that these facts were earlier presented to the Returning Officer during the scrutiny process but were allegedly ignored, and the election certificate was issued under government pressure.
He urged the Election Commission to conduct an impartial high-level inquiry into the matter and take action if any violation of law or procedural lapse is found, emphasizing that transparency and fairness in the electoral process must be maintained.
