Solan, December 26
A book discussion was organised by the Belletristic Shoolini Literature Society at Shoolini University. Ms. Suman Sharma, Managing Director of A.K. International School, Sarkaghat, was the session’s keynote speaker. She mentioned Khaled Hosseini, her favourite author, and his works The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Prof. Manju Jaidka started the event, and Dr. Navreet Sahi introduced the author to the audience.
Ms. Suman discussed the author, his background, his themes, and how, through these two books, he has managed to touch the very essence of Afghanistan. He has dealt effectively with the issues plaguing the nation and affecting the people adversely over the past several decades. Through the character of Hassan, he has been successful in highlighting the love, innocence, and loyalty that the people of the nation possess. Through A Thousand Splendid Suns the author tries to give a voice to the marginalised section of society, i.e., women.
Dr. Sahi and Ms. Suman continued the discussion in a conversational format. During the debate, faculty members Prof. Tej Nath Dhar, Prof. Manju Jaidka, Prof. Nasser, Dr. Purnima Bali, and Mr. Neeraj Pizar also contributed. It was an interesting workshop, and the students enjoyed it as well. Dr. Purnima Bali delivered the vote of thanks.
