In a major boost to the farming community, the government of Himachal Pradesh has announced that more than two lakh farmers are now benefiting from the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system under the state’s natural farming initiative.
The scheme aims to encourage farmers to adopt chemical-free and sustainable agriculture practices while ensuring they receive a fair and assured price for their produce. Officials say the initiative has helped reduce farming costs and improve soil health, while also strengthening farmers’ incomes.
Under the state’s MSP policy for natural farming crops, farmers are being offered ₹40 per kg for maize, ₹60 per kg for wheat and barley, and ₹90 per kg for raw turmeric. These support prices are intended to protect farmers from market fluctuations and guarantee stable returns.
According to agriculture department data, the growing participation of farmers reflects increasing confidence in the natural farming model. Thousands of farmers across different districts have already shifted to the method, which relies on locally available resources instead of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
The state government believes that the MSP support is playing a key role in expanding natural farming in rural areas. Officials say the initiative not only promotes environmentally friendly agriculture but also helps improve long-term sustainability of farming in the hill state.
With more farmers joining the program every year, the government hopes the MSP-backed natural farming model will strengthen rural livelihoods and make agriculture more profitable for small and marginal farmers across Himachal Pradesh.
