Shimla
In a major boost to Himachal Pradesh’s global investment ambitions, the BRICS Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BRICS CCI) has signed a Memorandum of Commitment (MoC) with the Government of Himachal Pradesh during the HIM MSME Fest 2026 in Shimla. This marks BRICS CCI’s first formal partnership with any hill state in India, positioning Himachal as a preferred investment destination across its international platforms and programmes.
Under the MoC, BRICS CCI—a not-for-profit organization—will collaborate with the state government to organize joint business events, incoming and outgoing trade delegations, sector-specific seminars, and high-impact investment forums. The partnership will focus strongly on trade promotion and investment facilitation.
As an early outcome of this collaboration, a Russian investment exceeding ₹500 crore has already been facilitated in the pharmaceuticals sector, reflecting Himachal’s growing appeal as a hub for value-added and innovation-driven manufacturing.
With India set to assume the BRICS Presidency in 2026 under the theme “Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability,” BRICS CCI, in partnership with the state government, is planning to host a major BRICS Business Engagement in Dharamshala in March 2026. The proposed conclave aims to bring together industry leaders, investors, and trade bodies from BRICS member nations and partner economies.
The event will explore opportunities in pharmaceuticals, food processing, green mobility, renewable energy, tourism and hospitality, textiles and handloom, IT and AI-enabled services, and agriculture value chains—fostering co-investment, technology transfer, supply-chain partnerships, and export market access.
Sh. Harvansh Chawla, Chairman of BRICS CCI, described the partnership as a milestone, stating that Himachal Pradesh offers a rare blend of competitiveness and sustainability that global investors increasingly seek. He emphasized that the proposed Dharamshala summit would serve as a catalytic step toward building a resilient and innovation-led partnership.
Welcoming the collaboration, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the tie-up opens new avenues for global capital, advanced technology, and international markets. He noted that the March conclave in Dharamshala will showcase the state’s sectoral strengths and accelerate high-quality, green, and inclusive growth in alignment with India’s BRICS Presidency vision.
The strategic alliance signals Himachal Pradesh’s rising stature on the global investment map, with Dharamshala poised to emerge as a new center for international business dialogue in 2026.
