Health education and role-play activities organized at ESIC Parwanoo and Sangha Hospital, Ropar
Parwanoo/Ropar: World AIDS Day was observed on December 1, 2025, by the nursing students of BUEST Nursing College with awareness activities conducted at ESIC Hospital, Parwanoo, and Sangha Hospital, Ropar. The initiative aimed to educate the public about HIV/AIDS, reduce stigma, and promote safe health practices.
World AIDS Day is observed globally every year on December 1 to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS and support those living with the disease. The theme for World AIDS Day 2025, “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response,” highlights the need for strengthened global efforts in prevention, treatment, and awareness.
As part of the programme, eighth-semester B.Sc. Nursing students conducted a health education session at ESIC Hospital, Parwanoo. During the session, students explained the meaning of HIV and AIDS, modes of transmission, common myths and misconceptions, preventive strategies, and the importance of early testing and treatment.
To make the session more interactive and informative, students used posters, flash cards, and charts to help the audience understand the topic better. The audience included OPD patients, attendants, and hospital staff. Students also interacted with individuals to clarify doubts and emphasized the importance of safe health practices, avoiding stigma, and encouraging voluntary HIV testing.
Meanwhile, third-semester B.Sc. Nursing students organized an educational role-play on HIV/AIDS awareness at Sangha Hospital, Ropar. The role-play highlighted the significance of antiretroviral therapy (ART), the importance of social support systems for affected individuals, and the need to reduce stigma associated with the disease.
The performance was conducted in the hospital waiting area to reach a larger audience. Visitors and patients appreciated the initiative and actively participated by asking questions and engaging with the students.
The programme not only helped spread awareness among the community but also provided nursing students with valuable experiential learning in public health education and community outreach.
