The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified the investigation into the death of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) Chief Engineer Vimal Negi. The CBI has formed a special team, which includes a Deputy Superintendent of Police, an Inspector, and a Sub-Inspector, to collect and investigate evidence. This team has started the work of investigating the evidence and the statements of several people have also been recorded. The team is also analyzing communication records and other data related to Vimal Negi’s tenure and his work in HPPCL.
Forensic examination of digital devices recovered during the initial phase of investigation is being conducted. The Himachal Pradesh High Court had transferred the case to the CBI on May 23 after Vimal Negi’s wife Kiran Negi filed a petition expressing dissatisfaction over the investigation by the state police. The court had also directed that the CBI investigation team will not include Himachal cadre officers to ensure a fair probe. The CBI registered an FIR against unknown persons on May 26 under sections 105 (abetment to suicide) and 3(5) (involving several persons in a crime) of the Indian Penal Code. Vimal Negi went missing on March 10 and was found dead in Gobindsagar lake in Bilaspur district on March 18.
