Following the orders of Himachal Pradesh High Court, he said in the affidavit filed by the DGP that CCTV cameras have been installed in all the police stations of the state. The division bench of Acting Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Satyen Vaidya has said that the instructions given in Supreme Court Judgment Paramveer Singh vs. Baljeet Singh should be followed. In which limited district level inspection will ensure that CCTV cameras are installed and maintained at every police station.
In this decision, the Supreme Court has directed the states that the entry and exit points of all the police stations, the main gate of the police station, all the lockups, lobby, all the verandahs, the sub-inspector’s room, the area outside the lockup room, the police station premises. The front, toilet and rear part of the police station will have to be covered with cameras. Along with this, the district level inspection committee will be responsible for the supervision and maintenance of CCTV and its equipment. The court has said that the first function of SLOC will be to purchase, distribute and install CCTV and its equipment. Secondly, making provision for budget for this. Third, continuous monitoring and repair of the camera and its equipment. Fourth, the cameras which are switched off will have to be inspected on time and those whose equipment is damaged will have to be repaired. Fifthly, to resolve complaints in the monthly report sent by DLOC. Sixth, call for monthly report from DLOC and dispose of the damaged equipment as soon as possible.
