The Chandigarh-Manali fourlane which was closed due to landslide near Dwada in Mandi district has been restored for traffic. Hundreds of drivers have heaved a sigh of relief with the restoration of Chandigarh-Manali fourlane.
On Monday, due to heavy rains, there was a landslide near Dwada, Jalogi and Banala, due to which the traffic on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway (fourlane) came to a complete halt. Due to the closure of this route, hundreds of small and big vehicles were stuck on the way, due to which passengers and local people had to face a lot of problems.
Small vehicles were taken out by the administration through the alternative route Kamand-Katola, but the big vehicle drivers had to wait for the fourlane to open. The matter of relief was that the administration, seeing the seriousness of the situation, immediately sent machinery to the spot.
The maximum debris was accumulated near the Dwada flyover, which took a lot of effort to remove. Pandoh outpost in-charge Anil Katoch informed that JCB and other machines were engaged in removing the debris at the landslide site since yesterday. After a lot of hard work, the four-lane was restored for traffic from one side at around 1:15 pm on Tuesday afternoon.
After the opening of the route, the stranded vehicles moved forward slowly and people breathed a sigh of relief. The local administration has appealed to the passengers to plan their journey keeping in mind the weather conditions and to be especially cautious in hilly areas. Along with this, the NHAI is also continuously monitoring the removal of debris and the safety of the route.
