Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice Chancellor, HPNLU, organised an Expert Lecture on Human Rights Day 2025, highlighting the theme “Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials.” The programme featured Deshabandu Senior Prof. (Dr.) Jeeva Niriella, University of Colombo, as the Chief Guest. The event underscored the need for strengthening everyday human rights consciousness, encouraged scholarly engagement with emerging global human rights challenges, and reiterated the University’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible citizens.
The session was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, who emphasized the indispensable role of human rights in maintaining societal harmony and the responsibility of academic institutions in advancing human rights literacy. Senior Prof. (Dr.) Jeeva Niriella delivered an insightful address, offering comparative global perspectives and calling upon young scholars to actively contribute to the protection and promotion of fundamental freedoms. Both speakers highlighted the importance of embedding human rights values in daily practice and fostering collective responsibility in sustaining a robust human rights culture.
The programme, organized by Dr. Sachin Sharma, Director, CHRDS, reflected the ongoing efforts of the Centre for Human Rights and Disability Studies to promote human rights education, interdisciplinary research, and community outreach. Active participation from faculty members and students enriched the deliberations and reaffirmed HPNLU’s mission of cultivating informed, compassionate, and socially conscious individuals dedicated to the advancement of justice and equality.
