Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur convened a high level meeting here today to review the progress made by the committees notified recently by the state government to cope with the Covid-19 situation in the state.
Necessary directions were given to all concerned for ensuring the supply of logistics like oxygen, drugs etc. It was also directed that the beds should be scaled up wherever necessary and home isolation patients should be taken care of adequately.
A spokesperson of the state government said that since more than 90 percent of the persons infected with Covid-19 are in home isolation, it is important to know the self care procedures for a patient to improve their condition. He informed that proning is one such intervention which is extremely beneficial in Covid-19 patients wit h compromised breathing comfort, especially during home isolation. It improves ventilation and keeps the breathing easy. Regular monitoring of SpO2, along with other signs like temperature, blood pressure and blood sugar is important during home isolation. Proning is required only when the patient feels difficulty in breathing and the SpO2 decreases below 94.
He said for proning, one pillow is to be placed below the neck and one or two pillows below the chest till upper thighs and two pillows below the shins. The people should avoid proning for an hour after meals and proning is to be maintained as easily tolerable. Another alternative for patients on home isolation is regular alterations in lying position.
