Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu while celebrating the Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas at the historic Ridge in Shimla on Thursday paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas is observed on Indira Gandhi’s death anniversary to honour her enduring legacy.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister administered the Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas oath.
Sh. Sukhu said that Indira Gandhi sacrificed her life for the nation and dedicated herself to preserve the unity and integrity of the country. He said that her unwavering commitment, patriotism and resilience in facing the challenges posed by terrorism were beyond description. As the Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi initiated numerous programmes for the upliftment and development of weaker sections of society, leaving a lasting impact on social welfare and nation’s progress.
The Chief Minister also paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary. He recalled his pivotal role in unifying the princely states and recognizing him as the “Loh Purush” (Iron Man) of India.
Artists from the Information and Public Relations Department presented patriotic and devotional songs on the occasion.
Congress State President Pratibha Singh, MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor Surinder Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, Principal Media Advisor Naresh Chauhan, councillors, Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap, Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, Congress party members and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
