Shimla/Sujanpur: Senior spokesperson of Himachal Pradesh BJP and former Sujanpur MLA Rajendra Rana has launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, alleging that the historic Holi fair of Sujanpur has been turned into a political spectacle.
In a statement, Rana claimed that the Chief Minister refrained from personally inaugurating the centuries-old fair due to fear of public anger and resentment. Instead, he said, the responsibility was assigned to the Deputy Chief Minister.
Rana alleged that with the state facing an economic crisis, rising unemployment and what he described as policy failures, the Chief Minister was apprehensive about facing public backlash. “An event rooted in centuries-old faith and tradition deserved the presence of the Chief Minister, but he chose to stay away,” Rana said.
He termed it unfortunate that the dignity and cultural sanctity of the historic fair had been compromised. The BJP leader further questioned the omission of the Chief Minister’s name from the official invitation card, alleging that it reflected a lack of confidence in his own popularity.
Rana also accused the state government of breaking established traditions of the fair to benefit close associates and supporters, claiming that political interests were placed above public sentiment.
