Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN, accompanied by Sh. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), visited the 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project in Nepal today to assess the progress of this strategically important cross-border hydropower venture. The visit underscores SJVN’s firm commitment to expediting the completion of one of the most significant clean energy collaborations between India and Nepal.
During the visit, the CMD and Director (Personnel) conducted a comprehensive review of project activities across major sites. At Phaksinda, they inspected the Dam site, where Sh. Gupta urged the project team to uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and timely execution. He emphasized the relevance of Arun-3 in strengthening regional clean energy cooperation and meeting future power requirements.
The delegation later visited the Powerhouse and other key components of the project at Pukhuwa. Project authorities presented detailed updates on recent achievements, challenges posed by the difficult Himalayan terrain and weather, and the mitigation measures being implemented to ensure steady progress. Shri Gupta commended the dedication and coordinated efforts of the workforce operating in demanding conditions and called for sustained momentum in completing the remaining project milestones.
Reaffirming the importance of Arun-3 HEP as a flagship project, he stated that its commissioning will significantly contribute to the energy security and economic development of both India and Nepal. The 900 MW of clean, renewable energy generated upon completion will strengthen regional cooperation and promote environmentally sustainable growth.
On the occasion, Sh. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), also lauded the relentless efforts of the project team working in challenging geographical and climatic conditions. Highlighting the project’s strategic significance for both nations, he stressed the need to maintain exemplary standards of safety, discipline, and teamwork throughout the construction phase. He encouraged all personnel to continue their focused and committed efforts towards achieving the project timelines.
900 MW Arun-III Hydro Electric Project is being developed by SJVN in Sankhuwasabha District of Nepal through its fully owned subsidiary SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd. (SAPDC). On commissioning, project will generate 900 MW of clean energy and is expected to play a vital role in meeting nation’s growing power demands.
SAPDC is a significant collaboration between India & Nepal and it aims to enhance regional energy security and boost economic development through sustainable hydro power generation in Arun River Basin.
